State nomination in Tasmania
Migration Tasmania ranks Registrations of Interest (ROIs) using “priority attributes”, issues invitations weekly from 20 August 2026, and publishes weekly figures including the lowest scores invited and the places remaining. For 2026–27 it revised the attributes to better recognise longer work in Tasmania; for example, the TSE Gold attribute now requires at least 30 hours a week in at least one job. There is no charge to submit an ROI, and the nomination application fee is $387 ($425.70 including GST).
Offshore applicants have fewer options this year. Migration Tasmania says it will not issue invitations in the 491 Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles pathway in 2026–27, although overseas health and teaching professionals with a job offer from a Tasmanian health provider or school can still be considered for the 190.

Is Hobart “regional” for visa purposes?
Category 2 — Cities and Major Regional Centres. Home Affairs sorts every Australian postcode into three categories. Category 2 and 3 areas are “designated regional areas”, where the 491 and 494 visas apply and which lead to the 191 permanent visa.

Home Affairs also says graduates who studied and lived in a Category 2 area may be eligible for an additional year on a second Temporary Graduate visa (two years in a Category 3 area such as Launceston).
Employer sponsorship in Hobart
Hobart employers can use the 482, 186 and, because Hobart is a designated regional area, the 494. Migration Tasmania’s priority attributes also give weight to time worked in Tasmania, so employer and state routes often run side by side.
